Neil Spark has made a living from writing – journalism and marketing – for decades.

He has a passion for politics and 20th century European history, particularly that of Germany, which has many warnings for what’s happening today. We can understand the present only by understanding the past.

“Those who cannot remember the past are condemned to repeat it,” says novelist and philosopher George Santayana.

History is a useful resource to understand change and the reasons for the current situation, says Professor Peter Stearns. “Only through studying history can we grasp how things change; only through history can we begin to comprehend the factors that cause change; and only through history can we understand what elements of an institution or a society persist despite change.”

Neil is combining his passion for history and story-telling in a thriller set in Germany in the early 1930s. It’s the story of three men, their personal struggles and their combined battle to undermine tyranny.

Neil works and lives with his partner in Hobart, Tasmania, Australia’s only island state.
